I’m breaking up with you, Blogger.

Dear Blogger, after some 200 posts I shared with you, I have decided to move in with Tumblr.

It’s not me, it’s you. I just think Tumblr has more to offer.

Sorry.

If you still want to keep in touch, you can find me at abbsterocity.tumblr.com.

Sincerely,

Abby

When Nature Calls

I stumbled upon this while trekking through the internets and thought it was funny, because I have always wondered:

Off My Mind: When Do Superheroes Go To The Bathroom?

by Tony ‘G-Man’ Guerrero

Summer To-do list

  1. Learn how to play guitar.

Why? Because playing saxophone with braces is painful and playing the piano is boring.

X-Men!

SatSpot

In my opinion, this was overall a great movie.  Although it isn’t the most faithful of adaptations, it was entertaining, and isn’t that what movies are supposed to do?

Both the sets and costumes are neat. Kevin Bacon makes an excellent antagonist, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are great, and I have concluded that I need more Nicholas Hoult in my life.  Magneto’s backstory was done well as it exposed a vulnerable side to his character that we didn’t get to see in the previous films.  For what it was, the story was pretty good, though I would have liked to see more development of Charles and Erik’s friendship, or at least more interaction between the two.

Like I said, it was a great movie. Not mind-asploding, but great.  And fun. Go see it!

Field Notes presents: Dry Transfer “____ Edition”

These handy little memo pads now come with dry transfer letters, so you can customize it with whatever phrase you want.  I already have a Threadless edition of Field Notes, but I would sure love to make my own edition. It would be something like “Chem Notes”. or “Musics I Need”, or even “Photoshoot Ideas”. Yup. I want some.

Street Fair Season!

When summer rolls around, so do the street fairs, and if you know me, then you know that’s one of my favorite aspects of summer.  To my luck, Refinery 29 has published a guide to making the most of the street fair, and how to survive it.

Check it out: The Street Fair Strategy You'll Use All Summer.

Coming up next weekend: Randolph Street Market Festival (May 28-29).

The Impossible Project has just dropped color film for your Polaroid  600 camera (or if you’re like me, cameras). This is the first flush edition of the PX 680 Color Shade film, so it is still in beta-test mode, although the results are promising. Can’t wait to get my hands on this film!

Food for Thought

Via Buzzfeed: What school lunches look like in 20 countries.
Here are some of the school lunches that I thought were the most appetizing:
France

China

Sweden

Compared to these school lunches, the US school lunches look like slop.  But the thing that breaks my heart is this picture of kids in Kenya:

All they get for lunch is avocado.  Makes you appreciate the slops kids are getting for lunch here in the US.

My day just got better.

Just when you thought it was game over for you Super Nintendo games, this was born:

Yep. It’s exactly what it looks like: a handheld game system for your SNES cartridges.  This is only a prototype, though, and it doesn’t have a release date YET.  Just be on the look out and hold on to your cartridges for a little while longer, and if you want to read more about the ‘SupaBoy’ click here.

The Weekend before Spring Break

My spring break is already off to a great start. I’ll break it down for you:

I went to see “Paul” this weekend and I have to say that it lived up to my expectations.  It was your typical Seth Rogan flick (that could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you feel about Seth Rogan) and was packed with cheap laughs.  But don’t get me wrong, I’m not one to complain about cheap laughs, I actually enjoyed it.  There are several subtle allusions to other sci-fi movies I which I thought were great and suitable for the film.  So if you’re a sci-fi geek who wants to have a few laughs, go ahead and see “Paul”.

Much like the two central characters in “Paul” I too went to a comic convention of sorts this weekend.  The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (at McCormick Place) was epic, way better than Wizard World in my opinion.  They had their fair share of guests, from artists to TV celebrities, as well a wide range of vendors. And lots of free stuff!SDC12507

Stunning Mid-century Photography

SatSpot

Enter Vivian Maier.  The French street photographer from New York would have been seen on the streets of Chicago, sporting a Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex camera, taking pictures of everything around her, sometime between 1950 and 1970.  Little is known about her, except that she had a talent for capturing life at its finest moments.

I would like to learn more about her, and after seeing her shots, I’m pretty sure you will too.  If you are interested, the Chicago Cultural Center is holding a one-woman exhibition, “Finding Vivian Maier: Chicago Street Photographer”. This has definitely made my to-do list.

Click here to see handful of the tens of thousands of shots she took in Chicago and New York.

Designed just for an SX-70

The Impossible Project has announced the arrival of a camera bag by Fullgive made to fit a Polaroid SX-70 camera plus film.  That’s awesome since it is so hard to find original Polaroid camera bags.  However, the price is a little out of my range for a bag and they are only available in the NYC Project Space, so this is going on my list of wants. via The Impossible Blog
