How to be Cool, Continued

Gotfilk here with another tip on how to be cool.

#2. Own a Polaroid Instant Camera

And, yes it has to be an authentic. An original. The whole sha-bang.

There’s something about Polaroids that just gives off an aura of coolness. To know that you have an iconic piece of technology in your hands that creates priceless pieces of art is just uh-maze-ing. And who says Polaroid cameras are now a hipster thing to own? In my opinion, they have always been cool.

Yep, that’s me and my Polaroid Impulse. I also own a Polaroid JoyCam and an i-Zone.

Film is pretty hard to find these days. I recently found two brand new, unopened packs of 600 instant film for my Impulse at a thrift store for $0.20 each. BONUS! You cant beat that price, compared to these prices.

But never fear! Mr. Pop Culture reports that the Impossible Project will begin manufacturing new Polaroid instant film this week! This is after two years the company stopped producing this type of film! WOOP!

So go out there and get your hands on one of these cameras before they become extinct. Search garbage cans, thrift stores, grandparents’ attacks, etc. When you find one,you will be that much closer to being cool.

TGIFF! Thank Goodness it’s a Friday Favorite

frifav

Yep. It’s that time again.

I’ve been surfin the interwebs and stumbled upon a great work of art. But beware the awesomeness you are about to encounter might inspire you to create one yourself! What is it?

It’s a Game Boy. Made out of paper. Gasp!

This is truly uh-maze-ing.  How many people have the skills/patience to accomplish this?

Found on BuzzFeed.  Click here to see more images.

There was a runner-up for a spot in the Fri Fav column this week, but because it is as awesome as a paper game boy, I might as well include it:

In case you’re wondering, yes, it is a Rubik’s Cube. In fact, it’s a Braille Rubik’s Cube! How could I leave this out?

How to be cool

So I’m sitting at my desk, reading blogs and wondering what I should blog about tonight. Then I talk to Lilo of Lilo and Stitch’s Blog and she gives me a great idea. She suggests that I write about being cool. Then I figured why not write tips on being cool, gotfilk style?

With a help from Lilo,we’ve decided on the first tip on how to be cool:

#1. Learn a foreign language.

This just has to be the coolest thing ever. How many people can they are bilingual or even trilingual?

I’ve been tweeting in Chinese lately, sort of a way to put the four years of learning Chinese to good use.  I also tweet in Spanish from time to time.  I think it’s pretty awesome. Try it.

Once you have your foreign language down pat, there are many cool things you can do with it. Lilo suggests the following:

1) Go to the land of said foreign langauge,

2) converse with the natives in said foreign language

3) and finally, take pictures with cool maans/gaals of the native land.

That should get you started. Be on the look out for more tips. Thanks to Lilo!

frifav Okay, I know its not Friday anymore but this still counts as a fri fav.  Last night (which was a Friday) I saw two of my favorite ska bands play: Mustard Plug and The Aquabats. I’ve seen Mustard Plug play like a thousand times but this was the first time I saw The Aquabats play. They played a couple of my favorite songs. Their set was super rad and they were quite entertaining. And now I want to share them with you. Watch the clip or click here to go to their website to learn more about them.

COMA!

AH! I’ve realized I haven’t blogged about anything since the seventeenth of February! School’s got me so hard that Ive been in a coma away from blogging. But never fear, Ive come back to reality. And back to the blogosphere.

Since I’ve been gone:

1. I have finished up my formspring test.  After that week of testing it, I haven’t gone back to it. It’s not all its cracked up to be. If you guys wanna check out my page you can find it HERE. Feel free to browse the questions but I’m warning you: I won’t answer any more questions if you intend to ask some!

2. I finished up the Google Buzz test. After a while, this lost its fizz, but it may be due to the low number of active buzzers.  I’m willing to give this little guy a couple months to grow a little before I go back to it.

3. The last week of February and first week of March were crazy weeks in terms of the amount of school work. I had two exams and two presentations. At least the worst is over now; the semester is half way through and its all downhill from here.

4. This past weekend was a delightful weekend. I declared it a Vampire Weekend (last weekend was a Weezer weekend) and that went lovely. I also went to go see Alice in Wonderland. But on top of everything enjoyable that happened this weekend, I got hit with an earache and nearly lost my hearing in my left ear. The pain is gone for the most part but I still cant hear out of it. I guess a good weekend comes with a price.
